Deep Cleaning (SRP)
Scaling and root planing to treat gum disease at its source.
A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, treats gum disease by removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline. It cleans the root surfaces so inflamed gums can heal. It is the standard first step for treating gum disease.
The area is numbed for your comfort, then buildup is carefully removed from beneath the gums and the root surfaces are smoothed. This helps the gums reattach and reduces the pockets where bacteria collect. It may be done over one or two visits.
Treating gum disease early protects the bone and tissue that hold your teeth in place. A deep cleaning reduces inflammation, freshens your breath, and helps stop the disease from progressing. It is key to keeping your natural teeth.
